RTA Launches Free Autonomous Shuttle Service in JLT and Uptown Dubai

DUBAI – Residents and visitors in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and the neighbouring Uptown Dubai district now have a futuristic new way to get around, thanks to a new initiative from Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

An autonomous, free-of-charge electric shuttle service has been officially launched to enhance local mobility and provide a seamless connection to the DMCC Metro Station. The service is a collaboration between the RTA and Shamal Holding, the master developer of the JLT district.

The modern, 8-seater vehicle is designed to solve the "first- and last-mile" challenge the often-inconvenient distance between a public transport hub and a person's final destination. The shuttle will operate on a dedicated route, linking key points within the bustling JLT and Uptown Dubai communities with the area's primary metro link.

This launch is a key step in fulfilling Dubai's broader strategic vision. The government aims to make 25% of all transportation trips in the emirate autonomous by 2030. By deploying a self-driving, electric vehicle, the RTA is also advancing its goals for sustainable and smart urban transport.

For the thousands of residents and office workers in the JLT community, the introduction of the shuttle marks a significant upgrade to daily convenience and quality of life. The service offers a climate-controlled, efficient, and cost-free solution for navigating the vibrant area and accessing the rest of the city via the Dubai Metro.
