Commuters in Dubai can breathe a sigh of relief as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) officially opens a crucial new bridge designed to streamline traffic flow in one of the city's busiest zones. The 700-meter bridge serves as a direct link for motorists traveling from Sheikh Zayed Road (SZR) towards Al Karama and Deira, significantly reducing congestion at the vital trade centre intersection.
This infrastructure upgrade is no small feat. The new bridge features two lanes capable of accommodating approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour. It spans the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, a notorious pinch-point for traffic during peak hours.
The primary engineering goal of this project was to solve the issue of overlapping traffic. previously, vehicles coming from Abu Dhabi/Jebel Ali on SZR and attempting to exit toward Al Karama often had to weave through traffic heading straight.
This opening is a strategic component of the massive Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This Dh5.3 billion mega-project is transforming the road network along the Dubai Creek, Deira, and Bur Dubai. The new bridge complements other recent upgrades, such as the Infinity Bridge, working in unison to slash travel times across the emirate’s historic districts.
The completion of this bridge underscores the RTA’s continuous efforts to upgrade Dubai’s infrastructure to match its growing population. By removing bottlenecks at key intersections, the authority ensures that the city’s arterial roads remain efficient for both residents and businesses.
